China Imposes Sanctions on EX-Japan Military Chief
Iwasaki "openly colluded with 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces, which seriously violated the one-China principle and the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan, seriously interfered with China's internal affairs, and seriously infringed on China's sovereignty and territorial integrity," the Chinese Foreign Ministry declared in an official statement.
The punitive measures, which took effect immediately Monday, encompass a complete freeze of Iwasaki's movable and immovable assets within China, a blanket prohibition preventing Chinese organizations and citizens from conducting business or cooperating with him, and a comprehensive visa ban barring his entry into China, Hong Kong, and Macao.
Tokyo has yet to issue any response regarding the sanctions.
Taiwan's administration named Iwasaki as an "official policy adviser" to the Cabinet during the current year.
The sanctions emerge during escalating friction between Tokyo and Beijing following Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's statements suggesting a Chinese military operation against Taiwan could qualify as a "survival-threatening situation," potentially authorizing Japan to "exercise the right of collective self-defense."
Beijing condemned the comments forcefully, issuing travel warnings advising Chinese nationals to stay away from Japan, while simultaneously halting seafood imports from the country.
