Number of registered childbirths in Hong Kong fall to record low

(MENAFN) The number of registered childbirths in Hong Kong fell to a record low of 31,714 in 2025, reversing a two-year upward trend despite government efforts to boost birth rates. This represents a 14% decline from 2024 and is roughly 3% below the previous record low in 2022.

Births remain significantly below the government’s goal of increasing the number of newborns by 20% compared to 2022 levels. Experts and parents have stressed that addressing deeper social and economic factors will be essential if Hong Kong is to reverse its persistently low fertility rate.
