Seven Individuals, Two Companies Face Charges Over Hong Kong Fire Disaster
Authorities announced Wednesday that the defendants face a total of 25 charges, including manslaughter and conspiracy to defraud.
According to officials, additional allegations involve money laundering, tax-related offenses, and attempts to obstruct the administration of justice.
The fatal fire broke out at the Wang Fuk Court residential estate in Hong Kong's Tai Po district, prompting an extensive investigation that lasted several months.
Among those accused are company directors and inspectors linked to a consultancy firm that participated in renovation activities at the property, along with representatives of the primary contractor overseeing the project.
Evidence presented during public hearings indicated that almost all major fire protection systems malfunctioned during the incident, with investigators attributing the failures to human error.
